Christmas, take a bough (Detroit Free Press)
Not to be sappy, but it’s more than just a tree. It’s the total package — the ornaments, the glistening lights — that encompass childhood memories as well as the holiday season now at hand. That’s why so many people, beginning this weekend, will revisit the ritual of putting up a Christmas tree. The question is, what kind?

“Like it or not, it’s the holiday season. So you might just as well jump in and enjoy it,” Derby Dinner Playhouse producer/director Bekki Jo Schneider counseled the crowd at Thursday’s opening of “A Christmas Survival Guide.” Good advice indeed but not really needed, since this smartly sung and acted revue with attitude (also known as “Christmas in New York”) is brimming with enjoyment.
